Survey on Dissemination to Dialysis Unit Doctors Treating Ukrainian Refugee Patients

The ongoing war in Ukraine has significantly impacted approximately 10,000 Ukrainian dialysis patients, leading to reduced access to dialysis therapy, delayed deliveries of essential supplies, and the displacement of patients from their homes and dialysis units. Many of these patients have sought care both within and outside of Ukraine, creating a complex and challenging situation.

In response to this crisis, the ERA Kidney Relief in Disasters Task Force (previously named ERA Renal Disaster Relief Task Force) conducted a survey from May to August 2022 on the distribution, preparedness, and management of adults requiring dialysis who were displaced due to the war. The original data from 602 patients have been compiled, and the results can be accessed HERE.

Recognizing the ongoing challenges, the ERA Kidney Relief in Disasters Task Force has prepared an online survey specifically targeting dialysis centers across Europe, including those which may not have participated in the first assessment. The aim is to understand the unique situation of displaced dialysis patients and gather valuable insights for renal disaster medicine. The data collected may serve as a crucial resource to enhance preparedness and foster international collaboration for unforeseen events and disasters.

We kindly request your assistance in disseminating this survey to dialysis unit doctors in your country who are currently treating refugee patients.
